An der Fakultät für Physik und Astronomie der Universität Würzburg ist zum nächst möglichen Zeitpunkt eine Stelle für eine Juniorprofessorin / einen Juniorprofessor der BesGr. W1 für
Astronomie und Astrophysik
im Beamtenverhältnis auf Zeit für die Dauer von drei Jahren zu besetzen.
Gesucht wird eine international ausgewiesene Astronomin oder ein Astronom mit der Forschungsrichtung Hochenergieastrophysik im Bereich der beobachtenden extragalaktischen Gamma-Astronomie. Voraussetzung ist ausgewiesene Beobachtungserfahrung im GeV Bereich mit dem Fermi-LAT Teleskop sowie Erfahrung in der Multiwellenlängen-Analyse und Koordination insbesondere mit erdgebundenen Gammateleskopen im TeV Bereich.
Die Kandidatin oder der Kandidat soll in der Nachbeobachtung schnell-variabler und transienter Quellen sowie der Nachbeobachtung von Ereignissen im Zusammenhang mit starker Gravitation (wie z.B. Gravitationslinsen und Gravitationswellen-Ereignissen) international etabliert sein und so die bestehenden Arbeitsrichtungen der Fakultät für Physik und Astronomie sowie den Forschungscluster Astroteilchenphysik mit dem Erlangen Centre for Astroparticle Physics (ECAP) thematisch und methodisch ergänzen. Zu den Aufgaben gehört es, das Fachgebiet in Forschung und Lehre zu vertreten. Erwartet wird die Beteiligung an den Lehraufgaben der Fakultät.
Die Ernennung erfolgt zunächst für die Dauer von 3 Jahren im Beamtenverhältnis auf Zeit, und soll mit Zustimmung der Stelleninhaberin/des Stelleninhabers vor Ablauf der ersten Phase bis zu einer Gesamtdauer von sechs Jahren verlängert werden, wenn sie/er sich als Hochschullehrerin/Hochschullehrer bewährt hat.
Die Einstellungsvoraussetzungen sind ein abgeschlossenes Hochschulstudium, pädagogische Eignung und besondere Befähigung zu wissenschaftlicher Arbeit, die in der Regel durch die herausragende Qualifikation einer Promotion nachgewiesen wird (vgl. Art. 14 Satz 1 BayHSchPG). Sofern vor oder nach der Promotion eine Beschäftigung als wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter/wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin erfolgte, sollen Promotions- und Beschäftigungsphase zusammen nicht mehr als sechs Jahre betragen (vgl. Art. 14 Satz 2 BayHSchPG).

The faculty for physics and astronomy at Würzburg university invites applications for the position of an assistant professor (W1) of
Astronomy and Astrophysics
which is to be filled as soon as possible. The junior professor will be appointed as a civil servant for an initial duration of three years. Following a positive evaluation, the appointment may be extended for three more years.
The candidate shall be an internationally recognized expert in astronomy with experience in high-energy astrophysics and observational extragalactic gamma-ray astronomy. We expect observational experience with Fermi/LAT and experience in the coordination and analysis of multiwavelength observing campaigns, specifically with ground-based TeV gamma-ray observatories. We are looking for a candidate who will complement the existing experience at the faculty of physics and astronomy at Würzburg university and the research cluster astroparticle physics with the Erlangen Centre for Astroparticle Physics (ECAP) by bringing in excellence in follow-up observations of transient sources and events in the context of strong gravity ( such as gravitational lensing and gravitational-wave events). The applicant is expected to represent this field in research and teaching and to contribute to the faculty's duties in teaching.
The candidate will have a completed study and an excellent PhD in physics/astronomy as well as proven aptitude and ability for teaching and scientific research. We also expect a strong commitment to the supervision of junior researchers.
If the applicant has held an academic position before or after the PhD thesis, the total length of the previous positions held should preferably not exceed six years (see Art. 14 sentence 2 BayHSchPG).
