The Faculty of Physics and Astronomy of the Julius Maximilian University of Würzburg, Germany, invites applications for a Full Professorship (pay grade W2, with tenure) in

Experimental Material Analysis

The work area of this professorship will be the analysis of structural and electronic properties of novel materials and material systems, with particular attention on potential functionalities.  Expertise is especially desired in the field of cutting-edge electron microscopy methods, with a special focus on the understanding and control of structure–property relationships in condensed-matter systems, in particular in layered oxide heterostructures and topological materials.

The appointee will be associated with the Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen-Center for Complex Material Systems (RCCM), an interdisciplinary laboratory carried by the departments of physics, chemistry, and biology.  State-of-the-art laboratory space and electron microscopy equipment will be available through the Joint Analytical Laboratory (JAL) within the RCCM.  An active role in cooperative research efforts, in particular with the DFG-funded Collaborative Research Center (SFB) “Topological and Correlated Electronics at Surfaces and Interfaces”, is expected.

The applicant will be expected to lead, support, and develop education and training within the field of Physics and Nanostructure Technology, engaging with both undergraduate and postgraduate students. Candidates will have a track record of publishing in international peer-review journals and should have demonstrated competence in defining research projects and attracting research funding.

Candidates are expected to hold a Ph.D. in physics and should have demonstrated the potential to conduct a vigorous and significant research program as evidenced by their publication record and supporting letters from recognized leaders in the field. The ability to teach physics effectively at both the graduate and undergraduate levels is required. The University of Würzburg is an equal opportunity and family-friendly employer. In order to increase the number of women in leading positions, we specifically encourage women to apply. Severely disabled applicants will be given preference in case of equal qualification. Applicants must not be older than 51 at the time of their appointment (exceptions in urgent cases can be made according to Art. 10, para. 3, clause 2, Bayerisches Hochschulpersonalgesetz).

Our preferred method of application is online. Please submit your complete application documents (CV, list of publications and courses taught, certified copies of certificates and degrees, list of third-party funding) by October 15th, 2015, using the following link: https://www.physik.uni-wuerzburg.de/aktuelles/jobboerse/stellenangebote.
