Challenges for describing unitary evolution in nontrivial geometries: pictures and representations

For some purposes it seems preferable to describe quantum evolution in a Schrodinger picture, but there are subtleties for this in curved spacetime, obstructing a naive treatment as via “many-fingered time.” These are connected with inequivalent representations of the canonical commutation relations, and raise questions in particular about how to describe evolution for interacting theories, and with quantum geometry such as in the context of Wheeler-DeWitt evolution. A possible approach to the first of these questions is outlined.
