MA Nanostructure Technology 120 ECTS

Master`s degree subject Nanostructure Technology (M. Sc., 120 ECTS)

Career Goals and Fields of Activity

Due to the comprehensive training in the fundamentals of experimental and theoretical physics as well as chemistry and the in-depth and complementary interdisciplinary training in both basic research and applications in the Master's degree programme, graduates of the Nanostructure Technology degree programme have excellent professional and career opportunities on the labour market in a wide range of areas, such as

  • in the industrial research and development centres
  • in production companies and project management
  • in the semiconductor industry and coating technology
  • in university and non-university research and development centres
  • as an IT expert, both in companies and as a freelancer

Tespite changing economic conditions, the opportunities on the labour market for graduates in nanostructural engineering have long remained very good compared to other academic professions.

Qualification Goals

After successfully completing the programme, graduates have the following skills:

  • Graduates have a high capacity for abstraction, analytical thinking, strong problem-solving skills and the ability to structure complex interrelationships.
  • Graduates have a broad overview of the sub-areas of nanostructure technology and interdisciplinary contexts.
  • Graduates have in-depth knowledge of the physical and technical principles of nanostructure technology as well as sound knowledge of the theoretical and experimental methods for gaining new insights.
  • Graduates are able to apply their skills and knowledge in their own projects and have knowledge of the current state of research in at least one specialised field of nanosciences.
  • Graduates are able to familiarise themselves with the current state of research in a specialist field on the basis of primary literature, particularly in English, and to apply physical and technical methods independently to specific tasks, develop solutions and interpret and evaluate the results.
  • Graduates are able to work independently on problems of nanostructure technology scientifically and in compliance with the rules of good scientific practice, even with incomplete information, and to present, evaluate and defend the results and consequences of their work.
  • Graduates will be able to discuss physical and technical issues with experts at the cutting edge of research and also explain physical issues to non-scientists.
  • Graduates have the ability to work as a responsible scientist in interdisciplinary and international teams of (natural) scientists and/or engineers in research, industry and business.
