"How do I publish my dissertation?"

Publisher, online or copy store? There are many ways and many hurdles when publishing a dissertation. Learn more about the possibilities and conditions of the various publication channels and find out how the University Library can support you in publishing your dissertation.

During the same week, the University Library is offering four coffee lectures on open access publishing as part of International Open Access Week. For doctoral students, we would particularly like to highlight the lecture “Who owns my publications? Legal principles of open access” on Thursday, 23.10.2025, at 12:30 p.m., which covers legal aspects that are also relevant for the publication of dissertations.

Doctorate at the faculty
The Faculty awards the academic degree of Doctor of Natural Sciences for the University of Würzburg by ordinary doctorate (Dr. rer. nat.).
By the ordinary doctorate, the doctoral degree is awarded to applicants who demonstrate a scientific qualification that significantly exceeds the requirements set in the diploma, bachelor, master or state examination.

Service offers
- In the spirit of environmental protection, we offer a digital review in advance to check your application
- The final application must be submitted printed with all original signatures. We recommend that you make a personal appointment for this.
Alternatively, you can use the in-house mail (e.g. PhD-Office) or the mailbox at the Service Center - The faculty offers to have your 6 deposit copies of the dissertation printed and bound by Mr. Reul. Please contact the PhD-office for this purpose
