Wilhelm und Else Heraeus Dissertation Prize

Since 2019, the Faculty of Physics and Astronomy, in cooperation with the Wilhelm und Else Heraeus-Stiftung, has been awarding a dissertation prize in recognition of outstanding research in the context of a dissertation and its excellent communication in written and spoken form.

For this reason, the Faculty of Physics and Astronomy awards the Wilhelm und Else Heraeus Dissertation Prize each year to an outstanding doctoral student as a very special distinction.

Criteria for awarding the Wilhelm und Else Heraeus Dissertation Prize

All of the following criteria must be met in order to be eligible for the Wilhelm und Else Heraeus Dissertation Prize:

  • The dissertation was rated excellent by all three assessors.
  • Presentation of reasons by the dissertation supervisor
  • At least one additional letter of support or third-party opinion
  • The nomination by the Executive Board takes place before October 1 of the year in which the award ceremony is held.
  • Timely submission of the doctoral thesis and doctoral certificate
    (The deadline is October 1 of the respective year of the academic ceremony.)

Important note regarding the award ceremony

Dates for nominations and award ceremonies

  • The Röntgen Study Awards will be presented at a newly established annual graduation ceremony in the middle of each year (for the first time in mid-July 2017).
  • The Röntgen Science Prizes will be awarded at the annual academic ceremony in December each year.
  • The Wilhelm and Else Heraues Dissertation Prize will be awarded at the annual academic ceremony in December each year (for the first time in December 2019).
