"NLO QCD corrections to multi-jet production at the Large Hadron Collider"
12/13/2012Sonderseminar: Benedikt Biedermann, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin
Abstract:
Multi jet production is of great interest for understanding QCD: It gives important input to constrain the strong coupling constant and Parton distributions; on the other hand it is a crucial background process for new physics search. In this talk, results for three and four jet production in hadronic collisions at next-to-leading order in massless QCD are presented. Both at the level of differential distributions and for the total cross section, we find large negative NLO corrections reducing the leading-order cross sections by about 40–50%. All channels of the complicated virtual corrections are computed with recently developed techniques of generalised unitarity. We will discuss in some more detail these methods which are particularly well suited for processes with many particles in the final state. An outlook on future perspectives is given.
