Hadronisation corrections with the ARES method

Abstract

ARES is a theoretical framework for the calculation of jet observables characterised by two energy scales. Such observables require the resummation of large logarithms of the two scales that appear at all orders in QCD perturbation theory. The ARES framework is able to perform such resummations at the state-of-the-art accuracy for an arbitrary jet observable that satisfies appropriate conditions by means of a semi-numerical Monte-Carlo procedure. The method can be adapted to compute the leading hadronization corrections to jet observables. Assessing their effect with precision would make jet observables very competitive for the determination of the strong coupling. After validation of the method with known observables, we will present the novel calculation of hadronization corrections to the thrust major distribution, an observable which does not admit an analytical treatment. We will also discuss future research directions.
