Introduction to Lattice Gauge Theory

This talk provides an introduction to lattice gauge theory as a non-perturbative approach to quantum field theory based on discretizing spacetime. We outline how Yang–Mills theories can be formulated on a lattice and how key physical phenomena such as confinement and the mass gap emerge in this framework. We also briefly discuss the role of numerical methods, in particular Monte Carlo techniques, in evaluating the resulting path integrals. Finally, we conclude with a short outlook on the inclusion of matter fields.
