MRI of the human head

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and Spectroscopy (MRS)

Projects at our lab focus on the development of new techniques and instrumentation as well as applications on biological systems, ranging from single cells to plants, animals and humans. The Fraunhofer EZRT/MRB, as a former spin off of EP5, is joining our efforts.

TWMPI scanner

Magnetic Particle Imaging (MPI) and Rotational Drift Spectroscopy (RDS)

Being a very young technology, MPI allows to localize magnetic nanoparticles in living organisms and promises high diagnostic potential. RDS was invented in Würzburg during our research on MPI and can highly sensitively examine environmental conditions of magnetic nanoparticles.

Nano-Optics and Bio-Photonics

This is another main area of research at our department. Our mission is to obtain fundamental control over light-matter interaction by controlling the flow of light at the nanometer scale down to the size of single atoms, molecules, and quantum dots.
