SAMOP meeting in Mainz
09.03.2026An inspiring week at the SAMOP Spring Meeting of the DPG in Mainz has come to an end. All PhD students of our research group presented their results of the past year.
Jonathan opened on Monday with a talk on spontaneous emission dynamics in topological quantum emitter chains. On Tuesday, Tobias, Alex, and Julien presented their work in nuclear and x-ray quantum optics, covering nuclear excitation of 229Th with paraxial light fields, coherent vortex pulse propagation in Thorium-doped crystals and x-ray waveguide dynamics. In the evening, Kaiqiang contributed a poster on the interplay of hyperfine mixing and nuclear-atomic interactions in highly charged ions. On Thursday, Fabian spoke about non-Hermitian x-ray photonics and Chiara presented her results on frequency-comb-induced excitation of 229Th.
All presentations sparked lively discussions and the exchange of many new ideas. A particular highlight was the talk by Nobel laureate Wolfgang Ketterle on atom-light interaction.
Beyond physics, we also enjoyed group activities and shared dinners. Chiara, Alex, and Julien took over the physics faculty’s Instagram account to share impressions from our week in Mainz.
