There are a number of research groups in theoretical and experimental physics at the faculty of Physics and Astronomy that are not associated with a chair but rather organizationally directly located at  the Institute for Theoretical Physics and Astrophysics or the Physical Institute respectively.

The research group of Professor Dr. Adriana Palffy-Buß is curently being established at Würzburg. Its topics include X-ray Quantum Optics, and more generally Nuclear and Atomic Quantum Dynamics.
