From Bessel beams to Braunschweig and back

07.06.2025

Adriana, Chiara, Alex and Janek have just returned from the “Structured Light and Matter” workshop, which was hosted at the PTB campus in Braunschweig from June 5th to 6th. The discussions covered a wide range of topics, from ultra-short structured light pulses to light propagation through media, as well as the operation of atomic and nuclear-clock transitions.

Adriana gave a review lecture on how electron and photon vortex beams can be used to drive nuclear transitions, with the examples of 93m-Mo and 229-Th. Alex presented the results of his Master's project on the coherent propagation of Bessel beams through an ensemble of Thorium nuclei doped in a CaF2 crystal.

In addition to the interesting talks, the participants had the opportunity to network with other experts in this field during coffee breaks and a delightful workshop dinner.
