ct.qmat succesfully extended as ctd.qmat

23.05.2025

Fantastic news! On May 22, the Excellence Commission announced its decision to extend the funding period for ct.qmat, the Cluster of Excellence at the Faculty of Physics and Astronomy in Würzburg in cooperation with TU Dresden.

In this second funding round, ct.qmat will not only continue its groundbreaking research on novel topological quantum materials but will also expand its focus to include dynamics in many-body systems — explaining its new name: ctd.qmat – Complexity, Topology, and Dynamics in Quantum Matter. The motto of ctd.qmat reads  “Science under the sign of the donut”, referring to the visualization of topology using a donut and a coffee mug.

As part of this new phase, six new professorships will be established, just as our research group on topological X-ray physics was established in the first funding period.

We are thrilled about this remarkable achievement and extend our heartfelt congratulations to all the principal investigators, including Adriana, who was part of the team that presented and successfully defended the project proposal last December in Bonn to an international committee of physicists!
