Chiara and Alex in Vienna

Over the course of four days, Chiara and Alex travelled to Vienna to meet with collaborating research groups as part of the COMB.AT research project. Their first stop was the team of Mikhail Lemeshko at the Institute of Science and Technology Austria, where Alex had particularly fruitful discussions on structured light.

The following day, Chiara and Alex presented their projects to Oliver Heckl’s team. The PhD students also had the opportunity to take a closer look at the experimental facilities during lab tours. A shared lunch with Martin Pimon provided another opportunity for scientific exchange. The programme continued with a COMB.AT mini-retreat, bringing together researchers from across the consortium. Alongside engaging scientific discussions, many of the consortium’s young researchers took part in a guided tour exploring Vienna’s hidden underworld.

Finally, Chiara and Alex visited Thorsten Schumm’s group, where they had insightful discussions on ongoing research. The visit concluded with a tour of the labs and the reactor at the Atominstitut.
