Importance of physics teachers

Promoting personal development - physics as a fundamental natural science

The teaching profession is fascinating, fulfilling and varied. Guiding young learners in their development is an exciting and responsible challenge.

As a teacher, you will familiarise yourself with the latest specialist knowledge as well as modern teaching methods. You will apply this knowledge during your studies in various internships and subsequently during your traineeship (Referendariat).

As a teacher, you will not only impart knowledge, but also specifically encourage pupils according to their talents, teach them values and help them to take responsibility for themselves and others. In this way, you will support the personal development of young people as they grow up.

By competently teaching the basics of science and providing insights into physics-based technology, you will prepare your pupils for life and their professional activities in modern society.

Employment prospects for physics teachers

The current forecast of the Bavarian Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs assumes that there will continue to be a high demand for physics teachers. As a result, grammar schools are primarily looking for young teachers with core subject combinations that include physics and maths or computer science. For secondary schools, the subjects maths, physics, biology and sport are in demand. Demand is also predicted to rise for secondary schools in the coming years.

You can find the complete forecast (german) on the website of the Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs.

The physics teacher training program in Würzburg

The University of Würzburg offers teacher training programs for all types of schools ion germany.

The teacher training courses have been modernised in recent years. In Würzburg, the proportion of school-related courses is particularly high. The teaching profession is also given special consideration in the physics courses. For example, there are separate practical modules and special lectures for the teaching profession in which the needs of student teachers are given special consideration.

Is studying to become a teacher something for me?

There are very different motivations and reasons for starting a teacher training programme. You can get an impression of whether studying to become a teacher is generally suitable for you and, if so, which subjects, via the Career Counselling for Teachers website from Austria. We recommend this orientation guide, as it contains various questionnaires relating to the teaching profession with an explanatory evaluation. CCT-Austria(german)
