Energy-energy correlation in hadronic Higgs decays: a novel observable for the future lepton colliders

Abstract

Energy-energy correlation function (EEC) is an event shape variable that was originally introduced in the 70s as a mean of testing the contemporary understanding of perturbative QCD in $e^+ e^- \to q \bar{q} +X$ reactions. In this talk I will report on our recent progress studying a derived observable, the so-called Higgs EEC, where the underlying process is the hadronic decay of a Higgs boson into partons. Using analytic techniques pioneered in 1801.03219, my collaborators and I were able to obtain full analytic NLO results for the Higgs EEC in the $H \to gg +X$ and $H \to b\bar{b} +X$ channels in the limit of light quark masses. This makes Higgs EEC a compelling observable for the future Higgs factories, where the Higgs decays can studied in the clean environment of electron-positron collisions.
