Formally accurate parton shower generators

Parton shower event generators are essential tools for establishing the quantitative connection between theory and experiment. However, the flexibility of these tools comes with lower formal accuracy compared to cutting-edge analytic calculations. The limited accuracy of parton showers introduces systematic uncertainties affecting all the measurements at colliders. In this talk, I will present the efforts undertaken by the PanScales collaboration to enhance the logarithmic accuracy of parton showers, which was limited to leading logarithms untill a couple of years ago. Specifically, I will illustrate how to achieve NLL (Next-to-Leading Logarithm) accuracy for processes involving two colored legs, such as color-singlet production, decay, and deep inelastic scattering. Finally, I will show how to go beyond NLL for observables primarily sensitive to soft emissions, such as particle multiplicity and jet vetoes.
