NLO Heavy Quark Production in DIS
I discuss the first calculation of the complete next-to-leading order QCD corrections for heavy flavor contributions to the inclusive structure function g1 in longitudinally polarized deep-inelastic scattering at Q2 << MZ2 . The results are derived with largely analytical methods and retain the full dependence on the heavy quark’s mass. I discuss some technical details of the calculation and present numerical results for the heavy quark scaling functions. I show some first phenomenological applications to a future electron-ion collider to study the sensitivity to the polarized gluon distribution. The dependence on the unphysical factorization and renormalization scales and on the heavy quark mass is investigated. I also discuss the electro-weak extension to the case of full neutral current DIS both in longitudinal polarized and unpolarized structure functions.
