Congratulations to Florian Rothmayr on the Successful Defense of His Doctoral Dissertation!
12.06.2026On June 12, 2026, in Room SE6 of the Physics Institute, Mr. Florian Rothmayr presented the findings of his dissertation, titled “Resonant Photodetectors and Their Application in Optical Gas Sensing,” at a public doctoral defense, and subsequently successfully answered questions from the examiners and the audience.
------------------------
Under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Haye Hinrichsen (Chair of Theoretical Physics 3), Florian Rothmayr presented the results of his dissertation starting at 4:00 p.m. He then faced the examiners: Prof. Dr. Sven Höfling (advisor and first examiner, Chair of Technical Physics), Prof. Dr. Vladimir Dyakonov (second examiner, Chair of Experimental Physics 6), and Prof. Dr. Thorsten Ohl (third examiner, Chair of Theoretical Physics II).
In his dissertation, Mr. Rothmayr focused on the fabrication and investigation of resonant tunneling diode photodetectors (RTD-PDs). These are based on complex heterostructures derived from the 6.1-Ångström family of materials (InAs, AlSb, and GaSb). These were investigated for their application in the field of gas sensing in the mid-infrared range (wavelength 2 µm – 3.5 µm), with large diodes being a focal point of the work, as they enhance the practicality and efficiency of the measurements.
The entire Department of Technische Physik extends its congratulations to Florian Rothmayr on the successful completion of his doctoral degree and wishes him continued success in the future!
