Probing heavy neutrinos and the Weinberg operator in double-beta processes at the LHC
We revisit the sensitivity to non-resonant, heavy Majorana neutrinos in same-sign W-boson scattering at the 13 TeV LHC and its high-luminosity upgrade. As a benchmark scenario, we work in the context of the type I seesaw model and study the phenomenology of same-sign di-muon production in the vector-boson fusion channel. We demonstrate how this channel can complement and extend existing searches for heavy neutrinos. We then investigate how such a final state allows us to probe the dimension-five Weinberg operator and the corresponding effective neutrino Majorana masses.
