We revisit theory predictions for D-mixing, based on the heavy quark expansion (HQE).
A naïve application of the HQE leads - due to severe GIM cancellations - to theory values several orders
below the experimental values. We review some elder and some very new ideas in order to understand
this discrepancy better and we comment on the recent status of lifetime predictions in the charm sector,
which do not suffer from GIM cancellations.
