Symposium of COMB.AT in Vienna

From September 24th to 26th, Adriana, Chiara and Tobias attended the COMB.AT symposium (Coherent Optical Metrology Beyond Electric-Dipole-Allowed Transitions) in Vienna. As members of the COMB.AT consortium, we collaborate with research groups from diverse scientific backgrounds in the field of light carrying orbital angular momentum. The other participating groups are based at the University of Vienna, TU Vienna and the Institute of Science and Technology Austria.

The symposium offered a range of workshops and lab tours, providing participants with valuable insights. Each group also presented their recent results and outlined their future plans. Adriana and Tobias shared their work on “Nuclear Excitation with Twisted Light Combs” which included the results from Alexander's Master’s thesis. Unfortunately, Alex had a cold and could not give a talk.

Chiara presented a poster showcasing both the preliminary work of former group members and her own first results on frequency-comb induced quenching of 229-Th in crystals. Her poster was highly praised, earning her the 2nd Best Poster Award! Congratulations, Chiara!

The symposium also provided excellent networking opportunities, such as the Women’s Mentoring Dinner and a relaxed walk through the Liechtensteinpark and an alley with a surprising name.
